European Solidarity Corps
Volunteer, work, or run a solidarity project across Europe. An EU programme empowering young people aged 18–30 to make a real difference.
What is the European Solidarity Corps?
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is an EU programme that creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work on projects that benefit communities across Europe. It is a separate programme from Erasmus+, with its own budget and focus.
Since its launch in 2018, the ESC has enabled over 350,000 young people to engage in solidarity activities. With a budget of €1.009 billion for 2021–2027, it continues to grow and expand.
The ESC is built on the values of solidarity, respect, and inclusiveness. It offers young people a unique chance to develop personal and professional skills while making a positive impact on the communities around them.
Ukrainian young people are fully eligible to participate in ESC volunteering activities across EU and partner countries.
Quality Label
Organisations that host or send volunteers must hold a Quality Label — an official accreditation from the EU that ensures they meet quality standards for:
- Safe and supportive environment for volunteers
- Meaningful tasks aligned with the project goals
- Proper mentoring and learning support
- Respect for the principles of the ESC
- Adequate accommodation and living conditions
- Compliance with EU standards for youth work
Types of Activities
The European Solidarity Corps offers three main types of activities for young people.
Volunteering Activities
Individual & Team Volunteering
Work as a volunteer in a host organisation abroad, contributing to community projects in areas like education, environment, culture, health, and social inclusion. You can volunteer individually or as part of a team.
Solidarity Projects
Youth-Led Local Initiatives
Initiate and run your own solidarity project in your local community. Groups of at least 5 young people can receive funding to address local challenges and make a positive impact — without going abroad.
Humanitarian Aid Volunteering
For Experienced Volunteers
Support humanitarian aid operations in third countries. This strand is designed for volunteers with relevant experience and requires specific preparation, including online training and pre-deployment preparation.
What Is Covered?
ESC volunteering is fully funded. You don't pay anything — the EU covers all essential costs.
Travel
Round-trip travel costs covered based on distance (up to €1,500).
Pocket Money
Monthly pocket money of €5–6 per day depending on the host country.
Accommodation & Food
Accommodation and meals are fully provided by the host organisation.
Insurance
Comprehensive health, accident, and liability insurance throughout the activity.
Language Support
Online Linguistic Support and, in some cases, local language courses.
Youthpass Certificate
Official EU certificate recognising the skills and competences you develop.
