From 31 May to 2 June 2024, ESN Ukraine gathered its sections, leaders, and volunteers for the National Assembly, the highest decision-making event of the network. Hosted in cooperation with ESN Chernivtsi, the Assembly became a space of strategy, democracy, and unity — where the future direction of ESN Ukraine was shaped together.

Delegates from local sections across the country arrived in Chernivtsi to reconnect, exchange experiences, and set common goals for the year ahead. The Assembly opened with greetings from the National Board and a warm welcome from ESN Chernivtsi, whose team prepared both the logistics and the atmosphere for three productive days.

Over the three days, participants engaged in a mixture of workshops, plenaries, team-building exercises, and networking sessions. The agenda was ambitious: setting the national priorities for the upcoming year, electing leadership bodies, and strengthening collaboration among local chapters.

The Assembly also served as a platform for sharing successes from local sections, discussing challenges (especially in times of pandemic and geopolitical instability), and envisioning new projects in student mobility, inclusion, and community outreach.

Representatives from ESN Chernivtsi played an active part in shaping the discourse. They brought forward insights from their local context: how they navigated challenges, projects that engaged students in Chernivtsi, and ideas for scaling initiatives nationwide. Their experiences enriched dialogues about grassroots implementation and sustainability of national programs.

Among key outcomes of the Assembly were:

  • Election of national leadership — new faces entrusted with steering ESN Ukraine’s direction
  • Strategic priorities chosen for the year ahead: enhancing student mobility programs, improving internal communication, expanding local chapter support, and fostering inclusion
  • Cross-section collaboration plans: pairing local sections to co-organize events, share resources, and mentor newer chapters
  • Capacity building workshops: on project management, social media, fundraising, and conflict resolution

These decisions were not abstract — they were rooted in the on-ground realities of Ukrainian students, shaped by voices from across the network.

Beyond formal sessions, the Assembly was about human connection. Late-evening talks, spontaneous brainstorming, and shared meals seeded new friendships and renewals of commitment. Delegates left not only with plans and roles but with inspiration and strengthened bonds.
