The Grand Opening of the European Youth Capital (EYC) Year 2025 in Lviv was a three-day event happening from April 3 to 5, 2025, marking the commencement of Lviv’s year as the European Youth Capital.

This special title is given by the European Youth Forum to cities that support young people and help them take an active role in improving their communities.

During the whole three days the ceremony was proceeding. Some of our volunteers have already attended the events and would eagerly like to share what happened there.

April 3: Official Opening Ceremony

The set of events began with an invitation-only official opening ceremony at the Lviv National Opera. This performance was aimed to showcase Lviv's cultural heritage and its vision for the youth-centric initiatives planned for the year.

April 4: Evening of Remembrance

On the second day, an Evening of Remembrance was held at the Garrison Church to honor the memory of young Ukrainians who have tragically lost their lives due to aggression. This solemn event featured performances by renowned artists and was live-streamed at various locations, allowing broader community participation.

April 5: Grand Opening Event

The culmination was the Grand Opening event at !FESTrepublic on April 5. That day-long celebration was designed to inspire and engage attendees through a diverse program featuring top speakers, thought leaders, stand-up comedy, and live concerts by prominent Ukrainian bands and artists. The event was free to the public, with on-site registration available for those who did not pre-register online.

”Make It Move” - is the theme for Lviv's European Youth Capital year, reflecting the city's dynamic spirit and the proactive role of its youth. Since 2022, Lviv has become a hub for young people from across Ukraine and Europe, fostering a community that creates, initiates, and mobilizes for change. The EYC title underscores Lviv's commitment to being a city of opportunities where young individuals can learn, build careers, relax, and realize their potential in various fields, including business, culture, science, and sports.

What will be the next to happen?

Throughout the year, Lviv will host a series of events and initiatives aimed at empowering youth, promoting active citizenship, and enhancing the city's vibrancy. The Grand Opening serves as the starting point for this exciting journey, inviting young people to be active participants in shaping the future.
